Today: 63 Senators, including five Republicans voted for her confirmation to the court.
No-longer supreme
The court named that by this author after: the loosing candidate in 2000 Presidential election ran to the court seeking the office. After Choosing to listen to his pleas, majority of "judges": Chose to involve the court in POLITICAL issue, nothing to do with law. They set a 'clock' to "re-count votes in Florida." Then halted their 'clock' declaring: 'not enough time to count.' They then Decided --chose --shot-putted him, Republican candidate, into the White House, Pay-back to Republicans who gave them their jobs.
Justice Stevens an entirely different person on the court; well-remember his work, words:
"...best remembered for his passionate dissent to the Supreme Court’s December 2000 ruling which blocked the counting of Florida votes and stole the presidential election for [The Thug]. After lambasting the majority for siding with [The Thug’s]
As Most Americans, watching, admiring the court from very young age, never having seen them do such a thing, felt the same -stunned, sickened by court's acts.“assault on the Florida election procedures,” Stevens wrote
“Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year’s Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation’s confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law.”
That aggression by that candidate evoked fear, loathing, foreboding. This author knew: no good would come from such a beginning; the destruction of America as we knew it? In several parts: it has.
'Chief' Rheinquist saw the hidden Agenda emerge, full-blown --and the consequences of his activist action; died suddenly. Coincidence?
The lone female (Day-O'Connor) on the court then, Republican Party member: still held in contempt, disgust, though she runs around lecture circuit as though she doesn't know she merits no respect whatsoever; destroyed her legacy.
Doubtful newest justice: can change ways of "judge" Scalia, Republican, another participant in that court; later ignored ethics, law when he refused to recuse himself from a case involving his pal, The Dick, President of Vice, though he vacationed -hunted with his pal just before the trial.
Who knew: they serve their corporate masters....
How Much Blood, Treasure
How Many military, American, European, Asian; How Many civilian children -parents -cousins -grandfathers -blown up, brain-injured, dead?
How Much --spent on ice cream, cake, torture, $3 per pound laundry, showers that electrocuted, buildings that sag, faulty guns, flak jackets that stop no bullets --how many millions, billions of American taxpayers' money bundled into sacks that 'disappeared' like the oil --"to pay for cost of war" with 'help' from oily "contractor" pals --that began with the partisan act of five people?
Using not the votes of majority --not law --not settled law --not evidence, but partisan politics to decide the 'winner,' the court: carries the shame. yes, Including YOU Scalia. This author does not, will not forgive those people, ever.
Justice Stevens did not change how the court is viewed, though his position did, at least, generate admiration, but of course did nothing about the ensuing eight ugly years.
With grace, eye on the future: Justice Stevens had the class, wisdom to step out, timely; give the gift of time, for everyone. You will be missed. Thank you.
Junior Justice Unlikely to end 'chief' Roberts' 'helpfulness' to corporate masters. He demonstrated his True beliefs when he wrote in recent important decision: "a corporation has the same "right" as humans-- to 'speak' during elections" --over-turning 125 years of SETTLED law . He will be the cause: Avalanche -millions upon millions of dollars will pour into local -state -national elections, and ballot measures via corporations --that may not want -'like' a community's choice.

Ya, thanks for your "avowed" 'impartiality' and 'adherence' to "settled law" nonsense of confirmation hearing, Roberts. "Judge" Alito slavish adherence to Conformist ideology: was predictable. But with people like you on the court: who needs enemies? America has: you.
So Who is Elena Kagen? Only vaguely aware of her past, "Solicitor General" --the Presidential attorney to the court, and President of Harvard Law School. Not minor stuff, but not illuminating. I turned on C-Span, watched all of Senate's hearings.
My takeaway: the President is gifted; made a remarkable choice. He chose a person known for: Listening --listening then 'rounding up' disparate voices' --opposites, and finding way forward.
Is she "liberal" or "liberal enough"? No clue, don't know, don't care. I'm not looking for her to be an ideologue, either.
Do know: No-longer supreme court a messy business; don't particularly want to know how the sausages get made, just want good 'sausages' --full of facts --law --Constitution, not stuffed with Invented Made-up activist stuff or corporate masters or their money.
Elana Kagen won't mind the door-opening, other little chores tradition dictates newest/"junior" member perform. For sure: Her Good sense of humor will go long way to 'round off' edges, elbows; influence Decisions.
With years of scrutiny of law, practical experience of implementation, Ms. Kagen may be: one of the best the court has ever had....
Here's hoping: she will not be performing those newbie chores for long. One more appointment and: Scalia, Alito, Roberts and near-worthless Thomas will have to work very, very hard attempting to succeed at shackling America....
