For disclosure: I looked at announced and possible candidates for 2008 election, though it wasn't necessary. I knew which one I thought would make the best President and went to work on making that happen, two years before Barack Obama formally announced his candidacy.
October 2007 I was invited to hear him speak and I went. He showed up :45 late which I considered arrogant, rude. Then he rambled until he hurt my brain; so boring, my thoughts drifted far, repeatedly forced myself to focus, in case he -his speech would be Important, some day.
I've backed the candidate different from majority so many times, I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was disappointed. My view, at the time centered around:
-Mr. Obama did not have leadership/experience that said he could handle such a huge job
-one of his largest donors: nuclear power industry --to which I would do any work necessary
to stop; when that industry, anyone, can tell me Exactly how the waste will be handled/
contained/neutralized so that the earth isn't poisoned for toasters, blow dryers, I'll reconsider.
Till then: I'm on the side of Nevadans who bitterly resent the lies they were told by last
"administration" about Yucca as depository.
-"Change" --the nebulous and un-defined word --'filled in' by the listener --to mean
whatever the listener Thought his Presidency would mean. Not, generally, a good thing.
With the rest of the world: I was stirred, moved, rather thrilled on the night of his election --watching him on that stage in Chicago, listening to that moving speech. I hoped...with the rest of the world.
I still hope. This space: about the Politics --organic, unique, creative ways we CAN solve problems --the ones left behind by The Thug and The Dick, who squatted the White House for eight years; the ones from years of bad policies, politics, in places we, Americans, mostly, knew nothing about; the doings of those in the Pentagon, here known as Penta-goons for their deceitful ways, for Abugarib, abuse -indifference to those who do the actual fighting, dying; others.
I was raised by a Democrat and a Republican; in formal city, with cold weather, all kinds of people, from all over the world; in elegant semi-rural/suburban area, in warm climate where horses, money, ultra-Conservatives ruled, traffic lights, independence, creativity did not.
Translation: I see both sides, of everything; I adhere -admire no ideology.
I've been passionate about politics since I was a child. I believe in: Common Sense, doing the right things, ideology be damned.
So two weeks after election, with anticipation, optimism, I began creating this blog, intending to publish on Inauguration Day. I watched the Inauguration carefully, as thrilled as the 73% who had elected him. But that day: three things gave me a queasy feeling --alarm bells went off. No matter how hard I tried: couldn't escape feeling everyone, including Barack Obama had made a mistake --things were NOT going to be as hoped.
Though I kept on writing, I could not escape a Prediction.....
What I felt: by the time of his 2nd State of the Union speech, President Obama would be despised
--not just by the haters --by supporters, by hopefuls --from every direction, by nearly all.
I Know what he needs to do --about war in two countries, economy, reform of health care, Congress, other things. Will he Listen? Not likely, but I will try, this space as part 'speaker's corner.' Will the haters Listen? Not likely, but that won't stop me either, trying to impart
